The manifestation of a creative individual;
Becoming an advocate for Medical Freedom.

Back in April, 2001, William Haney (founder/inventor of Universal Arts, Inc.) had silk screen t-shirts printed that read, “In case of Medical Necessity” on the front and the names of some ailments on the back. (All conveniently placed within an alarm box graphic.) Much to his dismay though, 5/14/2001 rolls in and newspapers across this great nation report, “U.S. Supreme Court Rules 'No' to Medical Marijuana”.

That was a major downer to say the least.

What William had in mind was to sell these t-shirts to help fund other creative projects that promoted “Good Health and the Quality of Life”. (The mission of Universal Arts Inc.) It seemed like a great idea at the time, even though he lived in a state where medical marijuana was not at all legal.

William was determined to prevail none-the-less!
He started selling a few t-shirts even though sales were slow throughout the rest of the year. Then, in early 2002, William thought about selling his remaining inventory over the Internet. He began surfing the World Wide Web trying to find places that might be interested in helping him sell his t-shirts. In doing so, William found the Seattle Hempfest Web site that boasted a shopping cart called, “420 warehouse”, where vendors could display their products. Although he submitted a proposal to the site, he was never contacted. Either way, he kept returning to the site in hopes of a change. That’s when he stumbled onto a banner ad of a woman with braided hair stating, “See why this woman is facing 10 years for medical marijuana”. He clicked it and and was sent to (www.reneeboje.com) Renee Boje’s web site.

On this Web site, Renee Boje was asking for funding so that she would not be sent back to the United States (She had fled to Canada to escape charges) and face imprisonment. Immediately William sent an e-mail to the contact posted with a proposal that he would gladly donate a portion of the sales of his t-shirts. Once again William found himself waiting for a reply.A few days go by and William returns to the site to find information about Renee’s lawyer. He finds a number and calls this lawyer to find out why there was no response. In talking with her lawyer he gives his phone number and re-iterated his proposal. Low and behold he gets a return call! It’s no other than Renee Boje and she says she likes his proposal!Excited by this William changes his sales pitch to “Campaign for Medical Freedom” and advertises the fact that he will donate a portion of every sale to organizations and individuals fighting for medical freedom. This greatly changed his direction but also solidified his goal of promoting "Good Health and The Quality of Life".

Now armed with a new enthusiasm he began researching other organizations and individuals that were falling victim to the plight of "fighting for their right" to take medicinal cannabis for their illnesses. That’s when he found out about pot-tv.net. He started gathering information on putting a commercial together for pot-tv.net and decided on a location for where it would take place.He decided to launch his “Campaign for Medical Freedom” from Philadelphia, PA on 7/28/2002.He then submitted his Medical Freedom commercial along with a few t-shirts, two liberty bells, and two Betsy Ross flags. (As well, he sent a t-shirt, one Liberty Bell and one Betsy Ross flag each to Renee Boje and Steve Kubby.) The Commercial aired 1000 times yet still there was no progress to the sales of his Medical Freedom T-shirt. This did not stop him though.

William kept surfing the web and signing guestbook after guestbook to get his message out. Then one day, he received an e-mail asking Universal Arts, Inc. to consider adding WAMM (Wo/man's Alliance for Medical Marijuana) to his Campaign for Medical Freedom. He not only did that, he added a news page to his site to tell their story.

Still today William stays abreast on the progression of Medical Freedom and as you can see, he now has a Web site that gathers all the information he has found on the subject, (in hopes he may help others to get involved as he has over the years) for he believes that all Americans should have the freedom to choose what medicine they take for their ailments.
